چکیده

The numeric simulation of distributed-parameter systems involving wave propagation typically suffers from dispersion errors. This work considers the wave equation and the Euler-Bernoulli beam equations that appear in the modeling and simulation of railway catenary systems. A versatile phase error criterion is developed based on phase/group velocity errors due to a Finite Difference discretization. The error criterion is validated by data measured from simulation test cases including parameter studies. Finally, the validation results are discussed and interpreted for the criterion’s applicability in simulation practice.

A Direct Power Feeding System for AC Railway Networks Using Modular Multilevel Converter

Abstract Traditional railway power supply systems impose substantial power quality problems (PQ) on the utility network, such as unbalance, harmonics and a large amount of reactive power. This paper proposes a topology based on three-phase to single-phase modular multilevel converters (MMC) to obviate these problems. The MMC based traction substations (TSS) are connected directly to the utili...

High-speed railway pantograph and catenary dynamic simulation system modelling and verification

The dynamic simulation system of a pantograph and a catenary has been built by using the finite element method, in which the pantograph is equivalent to a threemass-damper-stiffness system and the catenary contains only cable and beam elements. Considering droppers as nonlinear elements only stressed by tension, a sliding contact model of the pantograph and catenary is coupled by penalty functi...

Optimization based determination of highly absorbing boundary conditions for linear finite difference schemes

Many wave propagation problems (in acoustics or in railway catenary or cable car dynamics, for example) can be solved with high efficiency if the computational domain can be truncated to a small region of interest with appropriate absorbing boundary conditions. In this paper, highly absorbing and stable boundary conditions for linear using a flexible, optimization-based formulation. The propose...

PARAMETRIC STUDY ON RAILWAY FASTENING SYSTEM RESPONSE SUBJECTED TO DIFFERENT AXLE LOAD

There are several factors causing fastening systems to deteriorate faster than the designed life. The high repetitive loads from a moving train being one of the main factors, track irregularities, design and installation defects of track components, non-uniform rail support stiffness, unevenness in the rail seat deterioration are some of the factors causing fastenings systems to deteriorate fas...

Numerical Study on the Reaction Cum Diffusion Process in a Spherical Biocatalyst

In chemical engineering, several processes are represented by singular boundary value problems. In general, classical numerical methods fail to produce good approximations for the singular boundary value problems. In this paper, Chebyshev finite difference (ChFD) method and DTM-Pad´e method, which is a combination of differential transform method (DTM) and Pad´e approximant, are applied for sol...
